Mama Nadi (Female-Identifying. Late 30's to Early 40's. Black.)- An attractive woman with an arrogant stride and majestic air. She owns every room she enters. Independent. Stubborn. A reluctant maternal instinct.
Christian (Male-Identifying. Late 30's to Early 40's. Black.)- Handsome, but hardened with the bleakness life on the road demands. He might have been fashionable some time ago, but he's practical now. Romantic at heart. A poet.
Salima (Female-Identifying. Late 20's to Early 30's. Black.)- Headstrong. World-weary. She has spent far too long carrying the weight of everyone else's problems. Loyal to those she trusts. (This role has already been cast, but seeking an understudy.)
Sophie (Female-Identifying. Mid to Late 20's.)- Luminous but with an air of defiance. Smart, quick, and surprisingly optimistic. Beautiful singing voice, like a songbird.
Josephine (Female-Identifying. Black. Mid to Late 20's.)- Sexy and she knows it. Heavily influenced by Western fashion and culture. A skilled dancer. Jealous, possessive, ambitious. Her desperation for survival is often mistaken for simple bitterness, but she's just learned to navigate the world differently. This role will require a partial state of undress to underwear, but no nudity.
Jerome Kisembe (Male-Identifying. Black. Mid to Late 30's.)- Leader of the Rebel army. Always holding court, no matter whose space he occupies. Brash. Takes up enough space for himself, and his ego as well. Quick to anger, easier to placate.
Mr. Harari (Male-Identifying. Actor of Color [character is Lebanese]. Late 30's to Early 40's.)- Suave salesman. Confident in his masculinity; not impressed by anyone's display of bravado. More generous than he should be given the severity of his own circumstances. A man of empty promises.
Commander Osembenga (Male Identifying. Black. Late 30's to Early 40's.)- Commander of the government army. Pompous, proud, and flashy. A live-wire ready to explode. Demands respect he has threatened to obtain, but not earned.
Fortune (Male-Identifying. Black. Late 20's to Early 30's.)- Possessive, prideful. A man of honor first, family second. Salima's estranged husband. He's seen things in the bush. He wears his temper strapped to his chest, right next to his gun.
Simon/Government Soldier/Aid Worker (Male-Identifying. Black. Late 20's to Early 30's.)- Fortune's cousin, friend, and confidant. Loyal to a fault. He fashions himself a soldier, but he's still managed to retain some softness. He's just here to make sure his friend doesn't get killed. This role requires the actor to play multiple parts. This role requires a lot of physical acting.
Laurent/Rebel Soldier/Miner (Male -Identifying. Black. Late 20's to Early 30's.)-Laurent is Commander Osembenga's loyal security detail. An extension of Osembenga's power and influence. This role requires the actor to play multiple parts. This role requires a lot of physical acting.
Time Commitment:
Rehearsals: Saturday, January 8, 2022 through Wednesday, February 16, 2022 (Saturdays and Sundays 10 AM-4 PM and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 6:30 PM-9:30 PM)
Previews: Thursday, February 17, 2022 through Saturday, February 19, 2022 (7 PM Showtimes) & Sunday, February 20, 2022 (3 PM Showtime)
Performances: Monday, February 21, 2022 through Sunday, March 20, 2022.
Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays (7 PM Showtimes) and Sundays (3 PM Showtimes)
Pay: $350 Stipend
