Invictus Theatre Company is excited to announce auditions for their upcoming production of Hamlet, directed by Charles Askenaizer. The performances will run from October 25 - November 21 and will take place at 1106 W. Thorndale Avenue.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 7th 10am-4pm, Sunday, August 8th 10am-4pm, and Monday August 9 6:30pm-9:30pm. Callbacks will be on Wednesday August 11th from 6:30pm-9:30pm and Thursday August 12th 6:30pm-9:30pm.
Both auditions and callbacks will be held at 1106 W. Thorndale Avenue.

Character Breakdown:

Horatio: Open gender. Actor of color. Late 20’s- Early 30’s Hamlet’s best friend and the only person he trusts in Denmark. Trying to support and protect Hamlet at all costs. Loyal, stalwart, noble.
Claudius: (PRE-CAST, Seeking Understudy) Male Identifying. White. 40’s-50’s. Hamlet’s uncle and the current king of Denmark. Murdered his brother to achieve the throne and wrestles with the guilt of his act by drinking. A charismatic and brilliant politician. He is also a thief who has stolen the crown and his brother’s wife.
Gertrude: (PRE-CAST, Seeking Understudy) Female Identifying. White. 40’s-50’s Hamlet’s mother and the queen of Denmark. A wonderful hostess who does not want to deal with the death of her husband.
Polonius: Male Identifying. Open ethnicity but actor of color preferred. 50’s-60’s A noble of the court and Claudius’s right hand. An overprotective father who toes the line between doddering fool and slick politician. Sycophantic flatterer at times as well.
Ophelia: Female Identifying. Actor of color. Mid 20’s-Early 30’s. Daughter of Polonius. Subservient to the powerful men in her life, until it ultimately destroys her, and then she isn’t. Involved romantically with Hamlet. Sweet, witty, innocent.
Laertes: Player 3 Male Identifying. Actor of color. Late 20’s -Mid 30’s. Polonius’s son and overprotective brother to Ophelia. Loving, fierce, strong. Double cast with Player 3.
Rosencrantz, Gravedigger 1: Open gender/Open ethnicity. Late 20’s - Early 30’s. A former childhood friend of Hamlet. Sycophantic flatterer, but innocent. Double cast with Gravedigger 1.
Guildenstern, Voltemand: Open gender/Open ethnicity. Late 20’s - Early 30’s. A former childhood friend of Hamlet. Sycophantic flatterer, but innocent. Double cast with ambassador Voltemand.
Ghost, Cameraman (non-speaking), Gravedigger 2: Male identifying. White. 50’s-60’s. The former warlike king of Denmark returned as a ghost to enlist his son to avenge his murder. Hard, angry, bitter. Double cast with Gravedigger 2 with possibility of triple casting into non speaking role.
Ensemble 1 -Barnardo, Player 2 (Queen), Soldier, Nurse, Lord, Sex Worker: Female identifying. Actor of color. 20’s-50’s Plays multiple roles. This part will require a state of undress to underwear, but no nudity.
Ensemble 2- Francisco, Reynaldo, Player 1 (King), Soldier, Priest: Male identifying. Open ethnicity. 20’s-50’s Plays multiple roles.
Ensemble 3 - Marcellus, Messenger, Soldier, Osric, Captain: Male identifying. Open ethnicity. 20’s-50’s. Plays multiple roles.
Time Commitment:
Rehearsals begin Saturday September 11
Rehearsals, in general, are Saturdays 10-4pm, Sundays 10-4pm, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays 6-
9:30pm Please note, there are some slight variations to these rehearsals dates and times so please look over the schedule provided carefully when you receive your audition slot.
