Invictus Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for the first production of our 2022-23 season, William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, directed by Charles Askenaizer. This is a non-union production.

Audition Dates:

Actor Roles:

Please note - most roles are double, triple cast or more; some descriptions below briefly describe one or more characters in the track.

The roles of Brutus, Caesar, Casca, Calphurnia, Young Cato, and Lucius have been precast.

Actor 1: Metellus Cimber, Flavius, Clitus, Second Soldier (20’s-40’s Open gender. Open ethnicity) A conspirator, a tribune, and a soldier.

Actor 2: Cinna, Murellus, Messala (30’s-50’s Open Gender. Open Ethnicity.) A conspirator, a tribune, a soldier.

Actor 3: Decius Brutus, Pindarus, Cobbler, First Plebeian (20’s-30’s Open Gender. Open ethnicity) Persuasive speaking conspirator. Witty cobbler. 

Actor 4: Lepidus, Trebonius, A Poet, Volumnius (30’s-40’s. Male identifying. Open ethnicity.) A mediocre leader of the triumvirate, historically overthrown. Will be asked to prepare a 2 min Shakespeare monologue as audition piece in addition to side.

Actor 5: Julius Caesar (50’s-60’s. Male Identifying.) This role has been precast.

Actor 6: Mark Antony (30’s-40’s. Male identifying. Actor of Color.) Brilliant rhetorician and a soldier. Close friend to Caesar. Is also a reveler. 

Actor 7: Cassius (40’s-50’s. Male identifying. Open ethnicity.) Calculating. Manipulative. Hot tempered. 

Actor 8: Marcus Brutus (30’s. Male identifying. White. Precast) This role has been precast. 

Actor 9: Casca, First Soldier, Messenger, Fourth Plebeian, Dardanius (40’s-50’s. Male Identifying. White.) This role has been precast.

Actor 10: Caius Ligarius, Soothsayer, Strato, Antony’s Servant (50’s-60’s. Male identifying. Open ethnicity.) A sickly conspirator. Blind to this world but has great supernatural vision.

Actor 11: Octavius Caesar, Popilius Lena, Cinna the Poet, Carpenter, Caesar’s Servant, (Early 20’s. Open gender. Open ethnicity.) Historically, a weak and sickly boy who Antony underestimates. Turns into a brilliant political and military leader.

Actor 12: Calphurnia, Second Plebeian, Young Cato, Lucius (30’s-60’s. Female identifying. Open ethnicity.) This role has been precast.

Actor 13: Cicero, Publius, Titinius, Fifth Plebeian (20’s-30’s. Male identifying. Open ethnicity.)  A senator. 

Actor 14: Artemidorus, Octavius’s Attendant, Lucilius (50’s-60’s, Open Gender, Open Ethnicity) One who attempts to warn Caesar of the conspiracy. 

Actor 15: Portia, Third Plebeian (30’s. Female identifying. Open ethnicity.) Strong willed. Daughter of a great stoic and wife of Brutus.

REHEARSALS:

Will begin Saturday, September 10, 2022, and take place:

Saturdays: 10 AM to 4 PM

Sundays: 10 AM to 4 PM

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays: 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM

SHOW DATES:

October 20, 2022 – November 20, 2022

Previews: October 20-23, 2022

Press Opening: October 24, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.

Shows: Mondays, Thursday, Fridays, Saturdays at 7:00 p.m.; Sundays at 3:00 p.m.


Rehearsals and performances will take place at Invictus Theater, 1106 W. Thorndale Avenue, Chicago, IL 60660


Please bring proof of your COVID vaccination status to the audition, as well as a mask to wear in the lobby area. You will not be required to wear a mask during your audition or during performances. You must be fully vaccinated against COVID to participate in this audition and production if cast.


Actor stipend is $375
